With Memorial Day mere weeks away and Spring melting into Summer on June 20, it’s time to
look ahead to what’s in store for visitors to South Beach when Boardwalk Days at South Beach
2016 kicks off its season on June 22nd.
Last year’s programming included presentations by artists and performers working with Staten
Island Arts; a free Sunday Boardwalk Concert Series; ice sculpting demonstrations and free
weekly fireworks displays on the beach.
This summer’s programming will provide even more opportunities for family fun:
● The Sunday Boardwalk Concert Series encores with performances under the Gazebo
each week, from June 26th through Sept. 4th, and featuring a greater variety of musical
styles. Check this website for performers, dates and times.
● The everpopular fireworks displays return every Wednesday at sundown beginning
June 22nd.
● Also beginning June 22nd, visitors can enjoy childfriendly entertainment, fitness and
sporting events, giveaways and a DJ spinning tunes under the Gazebo all leading up
to the Fireworks Display.
● Over the course of the summer, there’ll be several movie nights, courtesy of the NYC
Parks Department, as well as a number of special events.
● Look for new menu items and weekly specials at the Boardwalk Grill, which will debut Fit
& Fresh choices, including fresh salads and yogurt smoothies.
A new addition to last year’s events calendar was “GiveBack Wednesdays,” a program that
offered local nonprofit organizations an opportunity to expand their reach into the community
and meet their neighbors in the casual, relaxed atmosphere of the boardwalk. This year, a
greater number of nonprofits will be setting up information tables on the boardwalk, taking
advantage of this new avenue for getting their message out, enabling them to connect with
those who might need their services in the future and others who might be seeking opportunities
for volunteering. Be sure to check this website for a listing of GiveBack participants and the
dates they’ll be greeting visitors on the boardwalk.
Boardwalk Days At South Beach is a collaborative effort with South Shore Kiwanis Club
Charitable Foundation, which has assisted the events committee in maintaining the program
since the summer of 2014. Among the sponsors making programming possible this season are:
NYC Bancorp; Richmond County Savings Bank; Con Edison, Northwell Health, Nissan of
Staten Island; YMCA; The Vanderbilt South Beach, South Fin Grill and Boardwalk Grill.
We invite prospective sponsors to meet with us to find out how they, too, can become a part of
this exciting time on a reinvigorated South Beach. Information on sponsorships can be found out on this website.

The Vanderbilt at South Beach opened its doors to diners with Summer Wednesdays at the Vanderbilt, featuring specially-priced meals served family-style in the catering hall. In support of the Give Back Wednesdays program, a portion of each week’s proceeds were donated to that week’s featured non-profit(s). After dinner in the ballroom with its waterfront views, diners returned to the boardwalk to enjoy the free weekly fireworks display.
Reservations to be accepted online only.

The mission of Boardwalk Days at South Beach, in collaboration with South Shore Kiwanis Club Charitable Foundation, is twofold:
To bring Staten Islanders back to a reinvigorated South Beach Boardwalk by creating
exciting weekly events and staging a host of spectacular special events on and around
the boardwalk throughout the year to promote an environment where individuals and
families can gather to enjoy the beach, the breeze and each other’s company;
To foster a greater connection among the borough’s residents, businesses and
non-profit agencies. By inviting local nonprofits to engage with the community,
dispense information about their organization and recruit volunteers to their cause as
part of a “GiveBack Wednesdays” program, we provide an opportunity for them to
connect one-on-one with their neighbors and local business owners in an easygoing
atmosphere, where information can be shared and awareness raised, all to the
betterment of the Staten Island community.
